What It’s All About

Grief is not a static state, but a living, social process. With “EchoTrace,” the collective PORTRAIT ME has created a multimedia art installation that dissolves the boundaries between different spheres of life. At the Residenz am Dom, a mobile, accessible space for experience is taking shape, weaving together performance, installation, and virtual reality. Here, aging is understood as a shared future, and biographies become a living present.

Why you should check it out

The experience invites you to explore grief and memory across three interconnected levels: In the physical space, you’ll encounter live performances. Digitally, you’ll encounter interview stations featuring voices brought to life by cassette recorders, among other things. Virtually, you’ll immerse yourself in an immersive world with biographically based avatars using VR goggles. At various stations, performers invite you to shift perspectives, engage in conversation, and experience respectful touch—whether physical, emotional, or purely mental.
