What It’s About
“Who Killed My Father” combines political theater with digital media art and inclusive working methods. Based on Édouard Louis’s award-winning novel, the production intertwines personal biography with razor-sharp sociological analysis. In clear, uncompromising language, it shows how political decisions shape people’s lives. The social reality Louis describes reflects current developments in Germany, from the dismantling of social safety nets to growing social division.
Why you have to see it
Four actors, constantly shifting between the roles of victim, perpetrator, and witness, reveal how deeply social background and economic violence are ingrained in us. The production makes the hard facts of political responsibility tangibly experiential and creates a space for collective responsibility. Here, solidarity is understood not merely as a word, but as the sole utopian means to finally break the cycle of oppressive violence.
Pssst!
Édouard Louis is considered one of France’s most important young intellectuals. His writings are radically honest and describe the growing social divide. This production lends Louis’s texts a new relevance and urgency, which becomes a sensory experience through Björn Gabriel’s signature live-film-theater aesthetic.
