What it's all about

A musical event “We in a box” with Everline Akinyi Odero on the punching bag and percussionist Joss Turnbull is a beat-battle between concert and performance. A physical borderline experience that touches on archaic questions of the "fighting" human being and explores the limits of musicality.
Turnbull on the Iranian drum Zarb Zurkhane fight their way through the different levels of movement, sound and rhythm. Breathing and coughing, the brushing of hands on eardrums, the wiping of sweat: the various physical processes of the boxer and the musician become a multi-layered sound performance. This not only blurs the boundaries between disciplines, it also raises the question: what is music and what does it involve?

Footwork, bandage tying and combination punches on the punching bag meet virtuoso drum sequences and sound design. 
Odero and Turnbull drive each other to the physical states of exhaustion and "knockout". The improvisation reaches a physical climax and therefore an almost fragile and trance-like dimension.
