WE WANT MORE! - An Inclusive Theatre in Europe

CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT

In Europe, people with disabilities continue to face significant barriers to full participation in the theatrical field, both as performers and spectators. Despite representing approximately 15% of the EU population, their presence in the performing arts is limited. The WE WANT MORE! (WWM) project was created to address this problem and to promote truly inclusive theatre, accessible to all and representative of the diversity of our society.

WWM is the continuation of the Creative Europe Culture project ‘INCLUSIVE THEATRE(S)’, which promoted accessibility in theatre at European level. Now, with WE WANT MORE! we want to take this commitment even further, ensuring the full integration of artists with disabilities in the production, direction and management of theatrical performances.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of the WE WANT MORE! project is to transform the European theatrical landscape through:

• Creation and transnational circulation of inclusive theatre work reflecting the diversity and talent of disabled and non-disabled artists.

• Training theatre professionals, including actors, directors and managers, in inclusive practices to ensure the accessibility of their productions.

• Promotion of inclusive policies in the cultural sector through awareness raising and work with public and private entities.

• Establishment of the European Network of Inclusive Theatres, which will foster innovation, knowledge exchange and collaboration between cultural institutions across Europe.

IMPACT AND BENEFITS

With a duration of 36 months, WE WANT MORE! will have a significant impact on the European cultural scene, empowering artists with disabilities, promoting equity in the performing arts and establishing models of accessibility that can be replicated in other cultural sectors.

Through inclusive theatre performances, specialised training and awareness- raising campaigns, we aim to inspire lasting change in the way European theatre integrates and celebrates diversity.
